*** Silent Hill playing NOW!! ***

This is a great movie with Radha Mitchell, Sean Bean, Laurie Holden, Deborah Kara Unger, Kim Coates
Basically it’s about:
A lot of movies can be described as “dripping with atmosphere,” but in the case of Silent Hill it’s literally tru. Faithfully adapted from the Konami video games by French director Christophe Gans and Pulp Fiction cowriter Roger Avary (both self-confessed video game addicts), this dark and grisly horror-fest is nothing if not a triumph of cinematography and production design, consisting of a minimal and mostly incoherent plot propped up by a mysterious maze of sets that literally seep, drip, and ooze with the atmospheric evil of past misdeeds. Welcome to the abandoned and perpetually foggy ghost town of Silent Hill, where grey ash falls like snow, a devastating coal-mine fire still burns in a hellish underground, and demons of various shapes and sizes make your worst nightmares seem like a walk in the park. It’s here that distressed mother Rose (played by Pitch Black heroine Radha Mitchell) has taken her daughter Sharon (Jodelle Ferland) in hopes of discovering the source of Sharon’s sleepwalking nightmares. What they find instead is a burned-out legacy of unspeakable evil, as Silent Hill’s dark secrets are revealed. As opposing denizens of Silent Hill’s meta-morphing underworld, Canadian actresses Alice Krige and Deborah Kara Unger seem to be the only ones who recognize this morbid mess as campy comedy; Gans (who established his visual flair with The Brotherhood of the Wolf) and Avary take it far too seriously, and the entire movie is utterly devoid of any emotional hooks or plot logic that would make us care about anything that happens. In crafting a loyal big-screen rendition of Silent Hill and its Playstation sequls, they’ve forgotten that movies play by a different and more demanding set of rules. As a result, they’ve made an impressive-looking but ultimately hollow horror film that only Silent Hill game-players can truly appreciate. –Jeff Shannon
While I’ve watched Silent Hill a lot, it seems to never get old. I guess it’s one of my favorites. If you haven’t seen it, or just haven’t watched it in a while – why not watch it now? Of course you can watch it later – for free – check the image above to see how. It’s the best way I’ve found

*** The Boy in the Plastic Bubble playing NOW!! ***

This is a great movie with John Travolta, Glynnis O’Connor, Robert Reed, Diana Hyland, Karen Morrow
Basically it’s about:
Before their blockbuster collaboration on Grease, John Travolta and director Randal Kleiser boosted their early careers with this well-acted, sensitively directed television movie. Teenager Tod Lubitch (Travolta) is forced to live in a plastic isolation chamber because he was born with a non-functioning immune system, leaving him vulnerable to even the most common everyday viruses. A uniqu coming-of-age story, the movie (first telecast in 1976) has become the subject of jokes over the years, but Travolta’s comeback has sparked new interest in the star’s Welcome Back, Kotter days. –Jeff Shannon
The Boy in the Plastic Bubble is awesome. I’ve probably seen it 20 times, and I never get tired of it. Have you seen it? If you click the image above you can learn how you can watch it now, or any time.

Kip Raines (Giovanni Ribisi) is a cocky young car thief working with a crew to steal 50 cars for a very bad man whose nickname is “The Carpenter.” Being young and cocky, Kip messes up, so it’s up to his big brother, Randall “Memphis” Raines (Nicolas Cage), to come out of car thief retirement and save him. With a cast that includes Robert Duvall, Angelina Jolie, Delroy Lindo, Cage, and Ribisi, it would be easy to say this story wastes all their talents–which it does, but that’s not the point. This is a Jerry Bruckheimer film. A good story and complex characters would only get in the way of the action scenes and slow the movie down. No, Gone in 60 Seconds (based on the cult 1974 film of the same name) is not about the stars as much as it’s about cars. Fast cars. Rare cars. Wrecked cars. All cars. Too bad director Dominic Sena (Kalifornia) doesn’t come across as more of a gearhead; he seems less interested in fast cars than fast cuts. But is this movie fun? Absolutely, and it’s fun because it’s so stupid. With pointless car chases and hackneyed dialogu in one of the most predictable plots of the year, Gone in 60 Seconds is a comic film that’s not quite a parody of itself, but darn close. –Andy Spletzer

Watch Winners and Sinners online right now!

Winners and Sinners is a good movie if you really like watching Jackie Chan.

Amazon has a great deal on Winners and Sinners here
or, if you want to save a LOT of money,
watch it for FREE here!
If you haven’t heard of Winners and Sinners, here’s a quick plot:
“It’s an epic!” howls one of the fighters in the free-for-all finale, overwhelmed by the sheer number of characters that get crowded into a single room, all pounding away at each other. Indeed, every comic actor and most of the leading action stars in Hong Kong in 1983 seem to have been sqUzed into this amiable kung fu comedy–there are even tiny cameo appearances by several famous movie directors (Ann Hui, Tsui Hark, Wu Ma). This picture marks the debut of a loose-knit group of farce-action stalwarts, the Five Lucky Stars, stumble-bum reformed crooks who attempt to go straight by setting up a cleaning service, but can’t seem to help getting into tons of trouble. The Stars went on to appear in several sequls, including My Lucky Stars. Jackie Chan, as a cop pursuing the hapless crooks, is essentially the straight man here, and he seems to be using a stunt double in some of his big scenes. This is a close as Chan ever got to phoning in a performance. –David Chute

Watch The Princess Diaries online right now!

The Princess Diaries is a good movie if you really like watching Julie Andrews.
Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway, Hector Elizondo, Heather Matarazzo, Mandy Moore (II) do a great job supporting, too.
Amazon has a great deal on The Princess Diaries here

If you haven’t heard of The Princess Diaries, here’s a quick plot:
A thoroughly engaging fairy tale that’s family friendly without being condescending, The Princess Diaries is your basic Cinderella makeover story given a fresh, affectionate twist courtesy of a game, energetic cast and a screenplay that skirts schmaltz in favor of gentle, effective comedy. Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway) is a frizzy-haired, glasses-wearing 15-year-old girl whose two highest ambitions are to become invisible and to get a few smooches from the slickly attractive school heartthrob. As a girl who can’t stand being the center of attention so much that she throws up during debate class, she’s stunned and horrified when her coolly continental grandmother (Julie Andrews) shows up and informs her that she’s the crown princess of the European principality Genovia. Soon enough, Mia has to undertake “princess lessons” (and a makeover) from her qUnly grandmother, and eventually she blossoms into a confident, radiant girl–despite the worries and pressure that her newfound status brings. What makes The Princess Diaries work is director Garry Marshall’s guileless, irony-free approach to the material (based on Meg Cabot’s novel). In comparison to most snarky, ultra-hip teen comedies, The Princess Diaries is refreshingly and enjoyably square, content to win you over on charm alone and not a slick bag of tricks. Hathaway is a charismatic, appealing role model with a sharp sense of comic timing, and Andrews–who came to stardom as the object of a makeover supreme in My Fair Lady on Broadway–is at her regal best whether teaching Mia the proper royal wave or learning how to eat a corndog. Both leading ladies are complemented by a finely tuned cast, including Hector Elizondo as Genovia’s head of security (and romantic counterpart to Andrews), Heather Matarazzo as Mia’s best pal, and Robert Schwartzman as the good guy who ultimately wins Mia’s heart. All in all, a royal pleasure. –Mark Englehart

I love movies! Kiss Me, Stupid is one of my favorite movies starring Dean Martin. If you like Dean Martin then you MUST watch this movie!
You can buy Kiss Me, Stupid from Amazon here
or watch it for free

If you haven’t heard of the movie, here’s a quick plot:
In 1964 director Billy Wilder was at the top of his game. Following a string of hits that had begun in 1959 with Some Like It Hot, he now intended to direct a bawdy boudoir farce in the grand tradition of the French theater. The contorted plot involves one Orville J. Spooner, an aspiring song writer (originally to be played by Peter Sellers, but replaced by Ray Walston after Sellers suffered a heart attack, which he partly blamed on Wilder), and his crazed lyricist, buddy Barney Milsap. Together they toil away in the town of Climax, Nevada, Orville working as a piano teacher and Barney pumping gas across the street. Along comes Dean Martin, playing a thinly veiled caricature of himself, who just wants to fill up his tank. Instead, the songwriting duo rig his car so he’s forced to spend the night at Orville’s, giving the dolts a chance to pitch their songs. But Dino also wants Orville’s wife. No problem! They hire Polly the Pistol (Kim Novak), the local prostitute, to masqurade as her. Thus begin the high jinks. The film plays like an extended dirty joke that could have been told around the office water cooler in 1960. It was a colossal failure both critically and commercially, and was banned by the Catholic Leagu of Decency, to boot. Nonetheless, the film has aged well and was ahead of its time (think of it as the grandfather of Caddyshack and the great-grandfather of There’s Something About Mary). Wilder eventually renounced the film and moved on. –Kristian St. Clair
